Simply put, Lee Green is PSA’s tech guru.

Beginning with the organization 14 years ago doing graphic design and tech support, the electronic media specialist is now the go-to guy for all things computer-oriented.

“When I first started, the web page was just that – a page,” Green said. “It was just a face; not dynamic at all.”

Of course, a decade-and-a-half was a lifetime ago when it comes to the online concept, which has kept Green busy - and will continue to do so, to keep up with the times.

“Now it’s a website that can be used and is useful,” he said. “It’s changed so much and it will keep changing to stay current and offer all that it can to our coaches.”

The importance of Green’s role cannot be underestimated in today’s electronic world.

“Online is where the mainstream market is,” he said. “Everyone is doing everything on their computers and tablets and phones. Everything is digitized and the social media market has totally taken off.”

With a degree in art and design, Green says that it wasn’t a leap to cross completely into dealing with electronic issues, tech support, email blasts, online publications, video work, and so much more.

“Starting with graphic design and tech support grew into too much for one person, so Amanda Taylor was brought in for graphic design and I was able to focus more on the electronics,” Green said. “I’ve always been tech savvy and electronics go hand-in-hand with graphic design – so much of it is digitized anyway. Computers have never been hard for me so it was a natural thing.”

Green gets to fulfill any latent design urges through his freelance company Greenhouse Grafix.

“I’ve been doing freelance for forever,” he said. “I often work days and then go home and design Facebook pages and posters and devise branding strategies and media marketing. It’s a fun pastime.”

With his two daughters, Kieanna, 19, and Alexa, 23, out of the house, he has more time to freelance and to spend with his wife, Jodi.

“We are new empty-nesters and it’s been a little tough because, as parents, you always see your kids as babies, but they do grow up and move out,” said Green, who has coordinated the PSA trade show for the last 14 years. “But now we have more time to go on bike trips and do home renovations and watch movies and Jodi has come to the last few conferences and we’ve taken a week to explore wherever we are.”

A personable man with an upbeat personality, Green leaves little doubt that he is a go-getter who enjoys life.

“Nothing stops us from trying stuff,” he said. “I have the attitude that I’ll try it and, if it goes wrong, I’ll do something else. I just have a creative perspective on life.”

A former division II basketball player, Green still spends some time on the court and marvels at his immersion in the world of figure skating.

“When I first started here, it was like everyone was speaking a foreign language,” he laughed. “Now I understand a lot more; I’ve got the verbiage down. Plus, I now have a special place in my heart for coaches – they’re all so unique and artistic and have such diverse personalities. It takes a really special talent to be a figure skating coach.”

Not at all unlike the special talent that Green has and how important it is to the future of PSA.

“We’ll keep moving in the direction of doing more and offering more for our coaches,” he said. “We will continue to enhance the interactive capabilities of the website, keep working on branding and keep making things better and easier.”

Fourteen years is a sizable amount of time with any organization, but Green is happy where he is.

“I really, truly enjoy the interaction with the coaches and working with a large span of people,” he said. “And I really like the group that works here; we all really get along well. It’s always something different every day and I like the work I do.”
