Meet The Staff

A Few Moments with PSA Staff Member…

Heidi DeLio Thibert

What do you do at PSA?
I work part-time for PSA as the E-Curriculum Coordinator and liaison to U.S. Figure Skating.

I live and coach in Fort Collins, CO, so most of my PSA work is done in my home office. I coach about 4-5 hours a day MTRFS, and I work for PSA during the day when I am not coaching. Most Wednesdays you can find me driving 2 ½ hours each way   to U.S. FigureSkating HQ to work with the staff on coaching projects.

I am also involved in projects at the USOC representing PSA and U.S. Figure Skating as a coaching educator. I work with U.S. Figure Skating to secure PSA representatives for USFS regionals and sectionals, serve on the USFS Coaches Committee, Ethics Committee, Parents Committee, Competitions Committee, and Sports Science and Medicine Committee. In those capacities I represent all PSA members as a coaching member with feedback and ideas from a coaching perspective.

How long have you worked at PSA?
I have worked at PSA since February of 2009. I have been a member of PSA since 1987.

How did you become involved with PSA?
My husband, Paul and I toured with Ice Capades for several years, and when we decided   to have a family, we settled in Colorado (where I lived and trained). Don Laws was coaching in Denver at the time, and he introduced us to PSA and encouraged us to get our ratings and become involved.

Do you have any skating/coaching experience?
I competed for ten years in the SW/MW region/section under the tutelage of Carlo and Christa Fassi. I have my Gold Tests in Figures, Free Skate and Moves in the Field, and a Novice pair test. I am PSA Master-rated in moves in the field, free skating, and choreography. I met my husband, Paul, while skating in the Ice Capades, got married, and toured for five more years. When we learned I was pregnant with our son, Lance, in late 1986, we left the show and were hired to start a program from scratch in Fort Collins,CO. We have been here ever since coaching skaters to the Junior National, U.S. National, and International levels.

Do/did you play any sports?
I tried to do gymnastics AND skate in junior high, but my parents made me quit gymnastics because I was nowhere near competitive in it, and I was in skating. I took ballet and various forms of other dance all through my skating years. I also played thepiano and the cello (very badly because I never had time to practice either of them.)

What do you enjoy doing while not at work?
It seems like I am always at work, but I like to garden, shop, and in general just spend time with family as much as possible.

Where are you from?
I was born and raised in Denver, Colorado.

Where is your favorite place to go?
Out to breakfast on a Sunday morning with Paul; for a walk in beautiful Colorado weather; to Vail in the summer; to our backyard patio to talk and listen to the fountain and build a fire in the firepit on summer evenings; to family events for holidays.

What is your favorite dessert?
Fresh raspberries and chocolate sauce. Lots of chocolate sauce.

What is your favorite thing to watch? (sport/type of movie/tv show/etc)
The Olympics – summer or winter!

What is your favorite form of entertainment?
Music and time with good friends and especially family.

What is your favorite sound?
I love most genres of music, but I also love sounds from nature: birds, crickets, a brook, thunder, etc.

If your house was on fire and you could only grab three things, what would they be?
All our important papers are in a fireproof safe, so I wouldn’t grab those. I would take our wedding album and the kid’s baby albums (that counts as one item), my necklace my dad gave me before he died if I wasn’t wearing it, (if I already had that on, I would stuff my kids baby keepsakes into a bag and call it one item.) Last but not least, I’d   burst through the flames to get my PSA flashdrive with all my PSA work on it!!!

If you could be given any gift, what would it be?
To be able remember everything I have read, learned, seen or heard.

If you could have any animal as a pet, what would it be?
A Siberian husky. I would have one now, but I travel a lot, and it wouldn’t be fair to a dog.

If you were stranded on a desert island and could choose people of 5 professions to come with you, who would you choose?

  1. I’m not a good cook, so we will need a chef.
  2. We will need to build a boat, or at least a tree house, so we will need an engineer/carpenter.
  3. We will need music to stay sane, so a musician of some kind.
  4. We will need a doctor or nurse in case anyone gets ill or injured.
  5. We will have a lot of time to talk, so we need someone with a philosophy degree.

Who was your favorite celebrity growing up?
Without a doubt, Peggy Fleming. I think she still is my favorite.

What is something you do that other people find weird?
My clothes in my closet and drawers are arranged by color. (Yes, obsessive-compulsive, but organized!)

What were you working on before doing this?
The 25th Anniversary of Winter Wishes Ice Show at our rink, Edora Pool Ice Center, in December. I have been the artistic director for almost all of the 25 years, and this is my last year to do so. I no longer have the time to devote to it, and it is time to pass along the creative opportunity to someone else. Bittersweet.

Elizabeth Peschges

What do you do at PSA?
I am the Membership Services Coordinator. All renewals, new memberships, insurance enrollments, rankings, and Excellence on Ice applications come to me.

How long have you worked at PSA?
I’ve been here since 2007, and went full time in 2010.

How did you become involved with PSA?
I started working here in the summers during college as a receptionist and office assistant.

Do you have any skating/coaching experience?
I have been skating for almost 20 years, and coaching for 7.  I primarily coach MIF and synchro.

Do/did you play any sports?
I have very few athletic abilities off the ice, but I did play t-ball for a day in preschool.

What do you enjoy doing while not at work?
I enjoy reading, camping, and spending time with my fiancé.  Recently I’ve been learning to sew.

Where are you from?
Right here in Rochester, MN.

Where is your favorite place to go?
Anywhere with a view.  The North Shore of Minnesota on Lake Superior has some beautiful waterfalls and hiking trails.

What is your favorite dessert?

Ice cream with something crunchy in it, preferably a chocolate something.

What is your favorite thing to watch? (sport/type of movie/tv show/etc)
The Office, Parks and Recreation, and The Amazing Race, which my sister and I are going to apply for very soon. Oh, and my favorite movie is Cops and Robbersons.  I’ve      seen it so many times that no one in my family will watch it with me anymore.

What is your favorite form of entertainment?
I like anything that makes me laugh.

What is your favorite sound?
This is kind of strange, but I really like the “click” noise that my car makes when the blinker turns off after making a turn.

If your house was on fire and you could only grab three things, what would they be?
My Kindle, photo albums, and pjs.

If you could be given any gift, what would it be?
I would like to be given the gift of extra time to spend with family and friends.

If you could have any animal as a pet, what would it be?
Just a puppy.

If you were stranded on a desert island and could choose people of 5 professions to come with you, who would you choose?
A doctor, a survivalist, an engineer, a pastor, and a comedian.

What is something you do that other people find weird?
I am a very neat and organized person, with borderline OCD.  I line up my books and binders based on height, any piles of paper must be squarely aligned, and I cannot sleep   at night unless my room is clean and the closet doors are shut.  Coworkers have been known to purposely move stuff in my office just to bug me…

What were you working on before doing this?
I just finished going through new member applications for the day.
